Random No-Crank Issue

Intermittent No Crank? Don’t Throw Parts. Diagnose the Signals.

It’s one thing for a car not to crank at all — it’s another when it works sometimes, then doesn’t.  Intermittent no-cranks are some of the hardest issues to track, and that’s where our tooling and strategy come in.

A vehicle that randomly refuses to crank, especially with no pattern, points to more than just a dead battery.  Here, the starting system is tested from the ignition switch through every control module and relay that stands in the way of starter engagement.  Voltage drop, current path verification, and logic-level signal tracing help pinpoint exactly where the signal is lost.

Whether it's a failed clutch interlock, a corroded relay feed, or a module that missed a wake-up command, the cause is isolated and confirmed under real-world conditions.

When it's not consistent, that's exactly when it needs professional-level testing.

Common Causes Behind Intermittent No-Crank: Ignition & Starter Switch

  • Bad starter or starter solenoid
  • Voltage drop from corroded terminals
  • Bad grounds (especially on engine block,  body, or battery)
  • Failing ignition switch or key signal
  • Engine control module or TIPM internal fault

Many clients come in after another someone gives up or recommends replacing the entire starter system.  These are the kind of cases that deserve a second opinion backed by real tooling.
